What Senna is

Senna is a science learning platform where you learn through conversation with an AI tutor. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and who else sees it.

What we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and name through our authentication provider, Clerk. This is used to identify your account.

Conversations.Every message you send and every response the AI tutor gives is stored. This is essential to how Senna works — the tutor needs your conversation history to teach you effectively.

Learning progress.We track which concepts you've mastered, your confidence level on each topic, misconceptions the tutor has identified, and your session history. This powers the adaptive learning experience.

Preferences. Your theme choice (light/dark) and text-to-speech settings are stored locally in your browser. These never leave your device.

What we don't collect

We don't use analytics or tracking tools. No Google Analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising cookies. We don't sell your data to anyone.

Third-party services

To provide the learning experience, your data passes through these services:

• OpenRouter(AI provider) — receives your conversation messages and learning context so the AI tutor can respond. This is the core of how Senna works.
• ElevenLabs / OpenAI (text-to-speech) — receives AI response text to convert it to spoken audio for the read-along feature.
• Clerk (authentication) — handles your sign-in credentials and session management. Clerk has access to your email and name, but not your conversations or learning data.
• Neon(database hosting) — hosts the database where your learning data is stored.
• Vercel(web hosting) — serves the website. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type) are retained briefly.

Each of these services operates under their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.

How we use your data

Your data is used for one purpose: teaching you science. Your conversation history and mastery state are sent to the AI so it can adapt to what you know and don't know. We don't use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to your learning.

Data retention

Your learning data (conversations, mastery progress, misconceptions) is retained for as long as your account exists. This continuity is important — the tutor needs your full history to pick up where you left off and avoid re-teaching what you already know.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account and all associated data. Contact us at privacy@senna.ai and we'll respond within 30 days.

Children

Senna is designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Our database is hosted on managed infrastructure with encryption at rest. Authentication is handled by Clerk, a dedicated identity provider.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify you by email.
